Phuket Wreck Diving Day Trip to King Cruiser
Available throughout the year, our Phuket wreck diving day trips to King Cruiser are ideal for experienced divers. A large wreck at 85 meter long, the King Cruiser sank a stones throw from two other Phuket scuba diving sites, Shark Point and Anemone Reef.
King Cruiser Phuket Wreck Diving Day Trip
Questions are still asked today, why in perfect weather conditions the King Cruiser somehow veered off course while enroute from Phuket to Phi Phi and holed one of her twin hulls on a submerged pinnacle, the well known and charted dive site called Anemone Reef. In less than an hour, the King Cruiser had become a new Phuket wreck diving location, laying silently on the sea floor at a depth of 32 meters.
Thankfully, no lives were lost the day she sunk in May 1997. Most of the passengers abandoned ship by taking to the lifeboats, while others were plucked from the ocean by dive boats that were close by and raced to offer assistance. Within days of the sinking, dive centers began offering Phuket wreck diving day trips to the King Cruiser.
A Phuket Wreck Dive Teeming With Marine Life
Actually, for scuba divers, the captain couldn’t have picked a more ideal place to sink his ship, just a stones throw from two other great Phuket scuba diving sites, Shark Point and Anemone Reef. Made from steel, and at a length of 85 meters, the King Cruiser rapidly began to attract marine life looking for shelter from predators, and of course, it became a huge hit with scuba divers who could now choose a new Phuket wreck diving itinerary.
Ideally, the King Cruiser wreck which sits half way between Phuket and the Phi Phi Islands, suits experienced divers or students taking their PADI Advanced Course. At certain times of the month the currents can be challenging, and the visibility can change from 30 meters to 5 meters within minutes, then back again. As the years have passed, the wreck has gradually started to collapse with the top King Cruiser now at a depth of around 18 meters. Due to the deeper than usual dive depth, the average dive time at the King Cruiser is around 30 minutes, or even less if there are strong currents.

Phuket diving day trips with Super Divers all include three dives. The King Cruiser wreck trip will dive at the wreck with two further dives chosen from Shark Point, Anemone Reef, or Koh Doc Mai. The dive sites will be selected on the day by the tour leader and captain, depending upon the conditions at that time. While we welcome non-divers and snorkelers who wish to accompany their scuba diving friends or family on our dive trips, it should be noted that on the King Cruiser day trip, snorkelling isn’t possible due to the depth of the dive sites as well as dangers posed by boat traffic in this area.
